The Sound of Murder

Running Time: 40-70 minutes

Cast: 12-25, gender flexible

The director is dead. And one of the iconic musical theater characters from Broadway is the killer. It’s up to two hard-boiled and slightly crazy detectives to uncover the truth – was it a problem like Maria, a singing cat, Alexander Hamilton (what exactly is this “shot” he was referring to?) Or was it a certain barber with an unhealthy obsession with pie? Go on a wild tour through musical theater history in this hilarious and flexible comedy.

I basically made this a wish list for every musical theater role a kid might want to play but probably won’t get a chance to – it’s incredibly flexible, I wrote 5 bonus scenes, so you can trade out any of the characters from the main list, or add the bonus ones in – whatever works for your group.

Educational Tie-In: There are 20 musicals represented in this show, so I thought it would be a great unit lesson to have kids research the musical their character is from and present to the class. (Maybe not everyone is familiar with Starlight Express?)
