A New York fairy tale. In the 1840s, a young woman escapes an arranged marriage to an older man, only to fall under a terrible curse by a wicked fairy – She’s transformed into a statue and given only a single day each year to be free.
In the 1920s, a young man with hopes of becoming an actor arrives in the city, only to find every door closed to him. As he despairs and is about to leave New York for good, he falls in love at first sight – with a woman from another time.
As the world changes, day by day, year by year, will their love be able to survive the curse?
I wrote this play as a follow-up to THE PRICE. It’s designed as a competition one-act with lots of opportunities for ensemble staging, movement, and choreography. It’s an extremely chaste love story (no kissing, there’s literally a single moment of hand-holding), so it could work for younger groups as well. Definitely another weeper.
